SDG 2 – No Hunger

SDG 2 ‘End hunger, achieve food security and improved nutrition and promote sustainable agriculture’ focuses on agriculture production and productivity, food and nutritional security, climate-smart agriculture, resilient livestock, and the resilience and livelihoods of farmers.

In the updated NDC submissions, 9% of activities addressed Goal 2 compared with 12% in the first NDC submissions. In the first NDCs, countries were prioritising targets '2.4 Ensure sustainable agricultural practices for reselience and resource protection' (70%) and '2.1 End hunger in all its forms' (13%), linking these to 'Climate-smart and sustainable agriculture' (22%), 'Improved livestock resilience' (12%) and 'Food production' (10%) as key strategies for climate action. In the updated NDCs, countries are prioritising targets '2.4 Ensure sustainable agricultural practices for reselience and resource protection' (68%) and '2.3 Increase agricultural productivity for small-scale producers' (20%), linking these to 'Climate-smart and sustainable agriculture' (22%) 'Increased agriculture productivity' (13%) and 'Food production' (10%) as key strategies for climate action.

Regarding first NDC submissions, activities related to this Goal are prioritising adaptation with 68% of the activities, while 17% focus on mitigation. Meanwhile, for updated NDC submissions 63% prioritise adaptation and 25% mitigation. The share of quantified activities has increased from 8% in the first NDCs to 20% in the updated NDC submissions.
