SDG 17 – Partnerships for the Goals

SDG 17 ‘Strengthen the means of implementation and revitalize the Global Partnership for Sustainable Development’ calls for strengthening means of implementing the Goals, and in particular global partnership to work towards sustainable development.

In the updated NDC submissions, 6% of activities addressed Goal 17 compared with 7% in the first NDC submissions. In the first NDCs, countries were prioritising targets '17.3 Mobilize additional financial resources for developing countries from multiple sources' (29%) and '17.6 Enhance global cooperation: technology, science and innovation' (26%), linking these to 'Financial resource mobilization' (27%), '(Need for) technology transfer' (25%) and 'Capacity building in developing countries' (18%) as key strategies for climate action. In the updated NDCs, countries are prioritising targets '17.3 Mobilize additional financial resources for developing countries from multiple sources' (22%) and '17.6 Enhance global cooperation: technology, science and innovation' (12%), linking these to 'Financial resource mobilization' (18%) '(Need for) additional financial resources' (17%) and 'Capacity building in developing countries' (12%) as key strategies for climate action.

Regarding first NDC submissions, activities related to this Goal are prioritising mitigation with 28% of the activities, while 23% focus on adaptation. Meanwhile, for updated NDC submissions 33% prioritise adaptation and 33% mitigation. The share of quantified activities has increased from 7% in the first NDCs to 11% in the updated NDC submissions.
